Celebrating the Life of Mrs Susana Laveti Evening (MOF, JP)

Mrs Susana Laveti Evening was born on 23 January 1943 in the village of Nukuni, Ono i Lau where she was raised by her maternal grandmother in the Navaka clan of the Turaga na Tui Ono.
Her early years were spent in Ono, Bau, Vanuabalavu and Lakeba where she attended primary schools and then to Davuilevu where she attended Lelean Memorial school for her secondary education. Susana then joined the Fiji School of Nursing where she trained to be a nurse.
In 1964 she married William Evening and together they had six children, Augustus, Charles, Lorraine, Maraia, Helen and Teresa. She now has 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Mrs Evening joined the Catholic Women’s League in 1968 and has devoted over 50 years of her life in service of women’s empowerment within the church and community.
The late Mrs Evening was a recipient of the Medal of the Order of Fiji and the Fiji 50th Anniversary of Independence commemorative medal for her service to Fiji and its people.
